I have 2 Auldey race-tins: a Nissan Skyline Loctite and a Suzuki Jimmy.
I'm modifying them. See below.
I advice you to go to http://www.carmoworld.com (en) or to http://rc132.free.fr (fr) for modification howtos.

Modifications - part 1
Overall view.
...poor Skyline.

|
 |
Modifications - part 2
Closer view of the bodyless tin.
Notice the position of the wheels.
|

|
 |
Modifications - part 3
New front wheels.
For now, the bolts are too shiny for my black wheels.
|

|
 |
Modifications - part 4
The direction block.
Notice the small notch on the grey part.
It is underside the grey external part of the direction block when assembled on the chassis.
The small item (see next picture, white item) under the chassis used to set the direction should come in that notch.
The magnet is in a repulsing and correct position.

Modifications - part 5
Under the direction block.
I broke the small white item used to set the direction when forcing on the magnet.
That's why I told you to take care of the notch on the magnet.

Embarked camera - first test
This is a just before buying a real mini camera.
So I've built a system in order to place a camera on the car and to receive the video stream on my PC.
For that, I used a PDA equipped with a compactflash camera.
The PDA has a built-in wlan adapter (802.11).
I've connected a wlan access point (802.11) to my PC.
I used Microsoft Portrait to establish the connection between the 2 devices and to receive the video stream from the cam/pda.
I would have preferred to use my own progs, but they are made in java and there is no possibility to access the camera drivers :(.
Conclusions:
The compactflash camera is very bad. It needs a lot of light (about 200 Lux minimum), so it's difficult to see something.
Anyway, I switched on a lot of lights for the tests :)
MS Portrait uses a hard compression algorithm. So the video results are even worse.
The video size is small.
The PDA is heavy for the tin.
The lens angle is too narrow I think. There is a lack of visibility (on the sides).
Ok, that was the bad news :)
Even with all these bad remarks, it was quite drivable. I managed not to crash against obstacles.
The feeling of driving a R/C car this way is not as fun as I expected.
I think using a real wireless cam would resolve all above problems (minimum light, no compression, larger video size, light weight on the car).
Also, for driving a R/C car using a camera, one would need a camera equipped with a wide angle lens.
At last, I think that driving R/C cars this way would be fine using an appropriate track (borders, etc...)

Embarked camera - race
I've bought a wireless camera. You can see how it looks like on the picture
on the right.
The quality is quite good.
As a test, I've raced a friend of mine.
I was "driving" only watching at the tv, not at the car. I agree, that's hardly in
the R/C spirit.
See videos.
